Best Things to Do in Wildwood This Summer

From the famous boardwalk to hidden beach spots, discover the top activities and attractions that make Wildwood the ultimate summer destination.

The Wildwoods have been a beloved Jersey Shore destination for generations, and for good reason. With miles of free beaches, a world-famous boardwalk, and endless family-friendly activities, there’s something for everyone. Here’s our guide to making the most of your Wildwood summer vacation.

Hit the Beach (It’s Free!)

Unlike many Jersey Shore towns, Wildwood beaches are completely free — no beach tags required. The beaches here are also exceptionally wide, sometimes stretching over 1,000 feet from the boardwalk to the water. That means plenty of room to spread out, build sandcastles, and play beach games without feeling crowded.

Pro tip: The beaches in North Wildwood (where we’re located) tend to be a bit quieter than the main Wildwood beach, perfect for families with young children.

Walk the World-Famous Boardwalk

The Wildwoods Boardwalk stretches for 2 miles and features three amusement piers:

  • Morey’s Piers — Three piers with over 100 rides, including roller coasters, water rides, and classic carnival attractions
  • Splash Zone Water Park — Perfect for cooling off on hot days
  • Classic arcade games — From skee-ball to the latest video games

The boardwalk also offers endless food options, from fresh-cut fries and pizza to funnel cake and salt water taffy. Don’t miss the famous Curley’s Fries or a bucket of Mack’s Pizza.

Take a Tram Car Ride

“Watch the tram car, please!” You’ll hear this iconic phrase as the yellow and blue tram cars roll down the boardwalk. It’s a Wildwood tradition and a great way to rest your feet while taking in the sights. The tram runs the full length of the boardwalk and costs just a few dollars.

Explore Beyond the Beach

Cape May

Just 15 minutes south, Cape May offers a completely different vibe with its Victorian architecture, boutique shopping, and upscale dining. Take a whale watching tour or simply stroll through the charming downtown area.

Sunset Lake

Rent a kayak or paddleboard on Sunset Lake for a peaceful morning activity. The calm waters are perfect for beginners and offer beautiful views, especially at — you guessed it — sunset.

Doo Wop Experience

Wildwood is famous for its mid-century modern “Doo Wop” architecture. Take a self-guided tour of the iconic motels and signs that have been preserved as part of the Doo Wop Preservation League’s efforts.

Evening Entertainment

As the sun goes down, the boardwalk comes alive with lights and music. The amusement piers stay open late, and you’ll often find live entertainment and fireworks during peak summer weeks.

Our Insider Tips

  1. Arrive early for beach parking, especially on weekends
  2. Bring cash for the boardwalk — many vendors don’t take cards
  3. Stay in North Wildwood for easier beach access and less crowds (we may be biased!)
  4. Visit the piers on weekdays for shorter lines
  5. Check for ride wristband deals at Morey’s Piers
